Spazio Pubblico

Lo spazio pubblico costituisce tema centrale nella ricerca e nella pratica della pianificazione del territorio in quanto, non avendo una superficie definita, interessa lo studio sui luoghi, unendo intenti di persone, plasmando identità, ricucendo e rigenerando aree, valorizzando tradizioni e patrimoni culturali, ponti, percorsi e infrastrutture materiali ed immateriali.
E oggi, più che mai, a causa di continue emergenze ambientali, antropiche e sanitarie, lo spazio pubblico diventa spazio e luogo fondamentale dove costruire e ricostruire luoghi sani, vivibili, flessibili e adattivi.
La Community, fin dalla sua nascita, ha avuto lo scopo di comprendere il significato dello spazio pubblico nella città contemporanea e individuare best practices in Italia e nel mondo, ampliando gli orizzonti di studio nell’intreccio con le altre Communities INU.
Per questo periodo, gli obiettivi si estendono alle questioni che si sono aperte con le attuali crisi climatiche e socio-culturali. Saranno all’uopo identificate e analizzate le modalità con cui lo spazio pubblico sta rispondendo ai rischi contemporanei (omologazione dei luoghi, cambiamenti climatici, nuove esigenze, etc) individuando buone pratiche.
Questo al fine di realizzare delle linee-guida per una città pubblica attenta alla salubrità, alla flessibilità e all’adattamento.
Il punto di partenza è costituito dai casi studio italiani già raccolti e pubblicati nel Volume “Spazi pubblici nella città contemporanea. Dai principi alle buone pratiche” (Sepe M. 2020, Inu Edizioni).
Saranno raccolti casi studio internazionali in relazione alle seguenti parole chiave: flessibilità, salubrità/vivibilità, adattamento. Le informazioni saranno raccolte attraverso l’uso di una banca data ideata ad hoc.
Si intende a tal fine ampliare la rete di contatti già intrapresi nel corso della raccolta dei materiali per i casi italiani con il duplice scopo di collezionare dati utili per la ricerca e far conoscere le attività dell’Istituto anche al livello internazionale
Il prodotto sarà la raccolta delle best practices da pubblicare in articoli su rivista e volume dedicato, nonchè presentare in eventi scientifici e divulgativi.
I fattori che saranno individuati e ritenuti virtuosi nell’ambito dei casi studio saranno utilizzati per la costruzione delle Linee-guida.
I principali eventi i cui saranno comunicati i risultati sono quelli dell’Istituto, ovvero:

Public space constitutes a central theme in territorial planning research and practice because, lacking a clearly defined surface, it concerns the study of places by bringing together people’s intentions, shaping identities, reconnecting and regenerating areas, and enhancing traditions, cultural heritage, bridges, pathways, and both material and immaterial infrastructures.
Today, more than ever, due to ongoing environmental, anthropogenic, and health-related emergencies, public space has become a fundamental space and place in which to build and rebuild healthy, liveable, flexible, and adaptive environments.
Since its establishment, the Community has aimed to understand the meaning of public space in the contemporary city and to identify best practices in Italy and worldwide, broadening the horizons of research through interaction with the other INU Communities.
For the current period, the objectives extend to the issues emerging from ongoing climate and socio-cultural crises. To this end, the ways in which public space is responding to contemporary risks — such as the homogenization of places, climate change, and new social demands — will be identified and analysed through the study of best practices.
The ultimate goal is to develop guidelines for a public city attentive to healthiness, flexibility, and adaptation.
The starting point consists of the Italian case studies already collected and published in the volume Public Spaces in the Contemporary City. From Principles to Best Practices (Sepe M., 2020, INU Edizioni).
International case studies will be collected in relation to the following keywords: flexibility, healthiness/liveability, and adaptation. The information will be gathered through the use of a database specifically designed for this purpose.
To this end, the existing network of contacts established during the collection of materials for the Italian case studies will be expanded, with the dual aim of gathering useful data for the research and promoting the activities of the Institute at the international level as well.
The final output will consist of a collection of best practices to be published in journal articles and a dedicated volume, as well as presented at scientific and dissemination events.
The factors identified as virtuous within the selected case studies will be used to develop the Guidelines.
